Rules & Regulations

To carry out Mount Olivet Cemetery's sacred ministry, we have found it necessary to establish specific rules and regulations to maintain the dignity, reverence, and beauty of the cemetery's holy ground. All our guidelines focus on furthering our bereavement ministry to families and friends of those interred here, and providing a safe environment for visitors and staff.

The entrance to every grave or lot must remain unobstructed. No entrance sills or enclosures of any kind, including beds of stone, concrete, metal or plastic, hedges, shrubs, posts, bars, chains and rails shall be permitted on graves or lots. No wooden, metal, plastic, concrete or any other kind of material borders are permitted on lots or graves.

A border of flowers may be planted at the front of an upright monument up to 8 inches from the front of the monument. The cemetery takes care when mowing these areas, but it is not responsible for damage to flowers. Only rubberized borders up to 8 inches from the marker are permitted, provided these borders are placed at ground level.

Potted plants are permitted throughout the cemetery on Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, and Christmas Day. These plants will be removed within ten days after placement.

Grave mounds are not permitted; no grave shall be raised above the established grade. No shells, stones, pebbles, etc., may be used to decorate graves or lots. No glass jars, bottles, tin cans, candle holders, crockery, or earthenware pots are permitted.

The cemetery reserves the right to remove any tree, shrub, vine, or plant. Families may not plant these items without cemetery approval.

Flags, (except Memorial Day), irises, and rose bushes are not allowed on the grave. Any other items such as wooden, metal, or plastic crosses, fences, planters, statues, memorabilia, ceramic figures, hangers, pinwheels, or solar lights are prohibited.

During the non-growing season, vase units will be turned down into the ground and all decorations will be removed. The cemetery accepts no responsibility for vase units that are set above the ground during the winter months. Fresh, plastic, or silk flowers are allowed in authorized vases or attached to upright markers.

No flowers may be planted in flat marker sections.

Grave blankets are allowed in graves from November 1st to March 1st. Fresh-cut flowers may be placed in throw-away containers. Funeral floral pieces for graves and mausoleums will be removed as they become unsightly.

Any planting, decoration, or other object placed on or above a grave or lot shall be removed when in the judgment of management such action is required in the best interests of the cemetery.

The cemetery accepts no responsibility for the theft of flowers, vases, urns, benches, or any other article left at the grave or mausoleum. The cemetery will not be responsible for damage to monuments or markers.
